An unidentified group of Studio Ghibli fans connected online to arrange a meet up date to topple the “Partners” statue of Walt Disney in Tokyo Disneyland, live streaming the event over various social media accounts.

They were able to get past the guards by creating a distraction, using local performance artists to photo-bomb people’s photos en masse, which was of much distress to the security guards.

“Mickey’s enslavement of a clearly lobotomized member of Goofy’s race was so disturbing.”

We spoke to some of the protesters who participated:

“We’re part of Operation Churro.” One protestor who was briefly detained while swallowing a whole churro proudly proclaimed, “Most of us would just run into the background of photos and tilt a full length churro into our mouths, people didn't know what to think, it was weird and obviously not something you wanted in your family photo.” After laughing to himself, the look of amusement leaves his face, “Except for that one guy that kept taking photos. That was just weird.”

Once the security guards became distracted with investigating the photo bombers, the protesters gathered around the statue and formed a linked-arm barricade to prevent the guards from interfering with the remainder of the group as they began dismantling the statue’s base.

“We’re part of Operation Churro."

“This had been a long time coming.” One of the protestors who allegedly helped arrange the meet up said, “I grew up on Disney’s films and their lessons on slavery. Mickey’s enslavement of a clearly lobotomized member of Goofy’s race was so disturbing. I was always concerned for Goofy’s safety when it’s just him and Mickey alone by themselves.” The protestor shivers violently for a moment before finishing, “He could be next, you never know.”

After removing the safety fasteners at the base, the statue was easily toppled and dragged into the moat surrounding the Cinderella Castle, where it sat half exposed much to the dismay of the gathered crowd of Ghibli fans.

“Hayao Miyazaki hates being referenced as the Japanese Disney” One of the gathered protestors was reported to have said before spitting on the statue, ““[Disney] cast Billy Bob Thornton as Jigo in the English dub of Princess Mononoke! What were they thinking? Miyazaki would never allow that! [Billy Bob Thornton] was terrible!”
