Silent Hill composer disappears after receiving a mysterious letter that's eerily similarity to one of his most famous works.

Akira Yamaoka, the composer and sound designer known for his work on the Silent Hill series, has recently disappeared after receiving a letter from fan that allegedly died years ago.

Early on in his career, Yamaoka was drawn to the original Silent Hill game because he believed he was the only person who could bring the game’s concept and world to life through his music and sound.Even though he has composed the soundtracks for many of the games in the Silent Hill series, Yamaoka has said that his work on the soundtrack for Silent Hill 2 was the most personal and enjoyable of his work.

“I don’t remember the last time I received a written letter. That’s what made this so unusual.”

A master musician, Yamaoka has received countless letters and emails from fans around the world, all praising his combination of haunting melodies, dissonant sound and both acoustic & electric guitar. “Obviously as technology has advanced, I have become accustomed to receiving my fan letters as emails.” Yamaoka said, “I don’t remember the last time I received a written letter. That’s what made this so unusual.”

Yamaoka had reported receiving an aged envelope with faded and tattered edges. It was discovered in his mailbox with no postage.

“At first I thought it might be a prank, but it had this aroma of smoke that I found intriguing and I admit that curiosity got the better of me so I opened it immediately. I recognized the first lines of the letter instantly.”

In my restless dreams, I play that game… Silent Hill 2.

“It was clearly meant to be a joke,” Yamaoka was reported to have said, laughing nervously, “But the more I read, the more I had this feeling that the reader knew me personally.”

You promised me we could play together…

But multiplayer never came.

Well, I found my old save file and I’m alone there now…

in our ‘special place’…

Waiting for you…

Waiting for you to come play with me.

Yamaoka disappeared shortly after sharing news of the letter with friends and coworkers. He was last seen on the outskirts of the town of San Bruno in California, one of the inspirations for the town in the Silent Hill 2 game. His current whereabouts are unknown.
